Discover the Tibetan Practice of Mö Divination

Mö divination (མོ) is an ancient Tibetan method of consulting wisdom using paired dice—traditionally connected to Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of transcendent insight. This practice brings clarity to decisions, timing, obstacles, and supportive conditions across all areas of life.

These stone dice are imprinted with AH RA PA TSA NA DHI, the Manjushri Heart Mantra, used in the Mö system presented by Ju Mipham Rinpoche and described in Mo: Tibetan Divination System. The six syllables generate thirty-six outcome combinations for guidance in health, travel, relationships, Dharma activities, and auspicious choices.

The blue and white color of the dice symbolizes clarity, purity of intention, and the wisdom that cuts through confusion.

How to Use (Practice-Centered Guideline)

  1. Prepare the mind with a calm, sincere question.

  2. Invoke Manjushri and recite Om A Ra Pa Tsa Na Dhi.

  3. Hold the dice and focus on your motivation and bodhicitta.

  4. Cast both dice and note the syllable pair.

  5. Consult your Mö text (such as Mipham’s system) for the corresponding outcome.

  6. Reflect on the result, apply it wisely, and dedicate the merit.

Every cast is an opportunity to access deeper clarity and align decisions with Dharma.

Important Note on Learning the Practice

As Shar Khentrul Jamphel Lodrö Rinpoche often reminds practitioners:

Mö cannot be mastered through technique. It's not a technique. It's about wisdom so this depends on the depth of your Dharma practice.
Its accuracy depends on:

  • bodhicitta motivation

  • stable meditation

  • ethical discipline

  • emotional clarity

  • devotion and trust

  • the ability to access awareness beyond conceptual thinking

Mö functions best when the practitioner’s mind is calm, unbiased, and aligned with Manjushri’s wisdom. It should be obvious but if you are attached to an outcome or emotionally invested then you may not be able to gain the proper clarity for the widsom of the answer to surface.
