Discover the Ancient Tibetan Practice of Mö Divination

Explore the timeless Tibetan method of Mö — a sacred divinatory practice using paired dice to bring clarity, guidance, and insight. Rooted in Buddhist logic, tantric energy, and intuitive awareness, Mö divination invites you into a contemplative space of meaningful choice and reflection.

In the classic system presented by Ju Mipham Gyatso (1846-1912), known as Mo: Tibetan Divination System, two dice bearing the six syllables “AH RA PA TSA NA DHI” are cast and referenced against a text of thirty-six outcomes. In this way, Mö functions as an oracle of wisdom and a method of insight into health, decisions, relationships, travel, spiritual matters and more.

Because Mö is connected to the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, Manjushri, it is considered more than mere fortune-telling—it is a meditative tool for those with bodhisattva intention and depth of awareness.

How to Use It (Guideline)

  1. Formulate a clear, sincere question in your mind and do mantra and meditation on Manjushri

  2. Hold the dice, focusing briefly on your intention and the presence of Manjushri’s wisdom.

  3. Cast the two dice and note the pair of syllables.

  4. Refer to your Mö interpretation text (such as Mipham’s system) to see which of the thirty-six outcomes corresponds.

  5. Reflect on the guidance, integrate it into your circumstances, and act with awareness.

  6. Offer a small prayer or dedication of merit after the reading.

A Note on Learning the Practice

As your teacher Shar Khentrul Jamphel Lodrö Rinpöche often reminds: Mö is not merely teachable like a hobby. It requires a foundation of bodhicitta, meditation, ethical conduct, integrity, and clarity of intention. True use of Mö arises from maturity of vajrayana practice that has overcome distraction of emotions and can access depths of wisdom from the space of awareness, not from technique alone. It also works best with those who have faith.
