Traditional Handcrafted Himalayan Incense for Buddhist Offerings, Meditation, and Daily Practice
Handcrafted in Bhutan using traditional Buddhist incense-making methods, Nado Happiness Incense is a premium herbal incense produced by Nado Poizokhang, one of Bhutan's most respected incense makers.
Made from a carefully balanced blend of precious Himalayan medicinal plants, aromatic woods, roots, flowers, and spices, Happiness Incense features ingredients such as saffron, red and white sandalwood, juniper, spikenard, safflower, and fragrant Himalayan herbs. Its distinctive aroma is rich, earthy, woody, and warmly spiced, with a subtle sweetness characteristic of traditional Bhutanese incense.
Prepared without added synthetic fragrances, artificial colors, or chemical additives, each stick is handcrafted using techniques passed down through generations of Bhutanese incense makers.
Traditional Bhutanese Incense Making
Nado Poizokhang was established in 1991 in Thimphu, Bhutan, by an incense maker trained in traditional Buddhist methods. The family-run workshop continues to prepare incense according to centuries-old formulas associated with Bhutan's Buddhist heritage.
The preparation begins with natural botanical ingredients, many traditionally gathered from the high Himalayan mountains. The herbs, woods, roots, and spices are dried, ground, and carefully blended before being formed into incense sticks, straightened by hand, and left to dry.
Happiness Incense belongs to the traditional Zur/Zim Poi category, sometimes called Bhutanese palace incense. This versatile style of incense is valued for its refined fragrance and its suitability for daily offerings, prayers, meditation, and ritual practice.
Traditional Uses in Buddhist Practice
Incense Offerings
In Bhutanese and Tibetan Buddhist traditions, fragrant incense is offered to the Buddhas, bodhisattvas, Dharma protectors, and other objects of refuge as an expression of generosity, devotion, and respect. Offering incense is a traditional way of cultivating merit and creating favorable conditions for Dharma practice.
Meditation and Daily Practice
The warm, complex fragrance of Happiness Incense makes it suitable for meditation, mantra recitation, sadhana practice, and daily prayers. Lighting incense can help mark the beginning of a practice session and establish a contemplative atmosphere.
Purification and Sacred Spaces
Incense is traditionally used when preparing shrines and practice spaces. Its fragrant smoke may accompany purification prayers and offerings intended to dispel obstacles and create auspicious conditions.
